There is an amazing monument in Vladimir – the Golden Gate, a symbol of ancient Russian glory. But did you know that in the 1970s, Japanese researchers were seriously looking for... Is there a real golden gate at the bottom of the Klyazma River?
Where did the legend come from?
According to legend, in the 12th century, Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky decorated Vladimir's gates with gilded doors. When the Mongols captured the city, the precious doors were allegedly thrown into the river to save them from looting.
The Japanese expedition
In 1974, Japanese historians and divers came to Vladimir with ultrasound equipment to find the legendary gold. They carefully examined the bottom of the Klyazma, but... only old anchors and coins from the 19th century were found.
What's really going on?
Scientists believe that the golden shutters most likely never existed – this is a beautiful metaphor for Vladimir's wealth and greatness. But the legend still lives on!
Do you believe that the treasure is out there somewhere?
If you're at the Golden Gate, make a wish. They say it's coming true!
P.S. By the way, the Japanese left without gold, but fell in love with our landscapes – maybe this is the main treasure?
